Joe Stonis Park
Joe Edward Stonis was passionate about making Cape Coral “green.” His dedication was rewarded in 2008 when the city named a park after him. At the entrance to the park, a plaque details Stonis’ accomplishments.
“Joe Stonis was President of the Cape Coral Beautification Foundation for 13 years. Some of Mr. Stonis’ accomplishments include the Yard-of-the-Month program, Cape Coral Beautification Week and assisting the City of Cape Coral in receiving the Tree City USA Award.”
Ribboning throughout the park, a paved trail leads to many forms of recreation. If you are in the mood for more than a brisk jog, the trail is dotted with exercise equipment where one could practice seated curls, back strengthening, tai chi, lower body warm ups and read up on tips for healthy eating.
For those of a more sporting mind, bring your tennis rackets over to the tennis courts, or partake in a game of horseshoes and shuffleboard. Rent out one of the pavilions for a family get-together and grill up some hot dogs! Don’t worry, they have fans to keep you and the family cool. You could also lay out a blanket and basket and have yourself an old fashioned picnic while looking out over the lake and watching the wildlife congregate around its banks. The kids can have a field day on the large park playground, equipped with slides and all of the climbable things a good playground needs.
Whether you are looking for a place to train hard or rest easy, Joe Stonis Park, located at 3444 Ceitus Parkway, makes for a perfect place to have fun in the Florida sun.
