Things I’ve Picked Up Along the Way to Healthy
1. One of the biggest things I have learned in this business is that someone cannot sign a loved one up for training. Anytime someone has called me to train his or her child or spouse, it has never worked out well. It really has to be someone’s own idea. I see this the most with parents that have scheduled for me to train their children. Many times, the children are very unmotivated and do not follow through with logging their diets and doing the workout assignments on their own. Becoming fit and healthy is a huge mindset, and it has to be a choice made by the person himself or herself.
2. I am a big believer in having one or two treat meals a week. I don’t like to call them “cheat meals” because I feel that we are entitled to these meals. We tend to eat relatively healthy most of the time at our house, so I like to save these treat meals for when we dine out. My favorite treat meal would have to be either Mexican food from a good restaurant or a good pizza from one of the local pizzerias.
3. Another thing I have learned since I started training is that the people that lose weight very quickly are the ones that tend to burn out the fastest. Usually, if someone drops weight very quickly, they are probably doing something a little bit on the extreme side. It’s always better to make little choices gradually until you have acquired a feasible lifestyle change. I like to see my clients that are looking to lose weight lose only 1 to 3 pounds per week. Those are usually the people that will keep the weight off for the long term.
