Florida Skin Center discovers first Malignant Melanoma case since launch of free skin check campaign
Florida Skin Center has discovered the first case of malignant melanoma since the launch of the “Get your skin in the game. Check it!” campaign nearly three months ago. Shirisha Vallarapu, a board-certified physician assistant, examined the patient at the Fort Myers location as part of one to three free weekly skin checks provided by the dermatological facility.
“This guest heard about our complimentary service and was checked from head to toe with a dermascope,” Vallarapu says. “When I found something suspicious in a sun-exposed area, I ran a biopsy and ultimately referred the patient for treatment, as well as encouraged the patient to follow up with Florida Skin Center on a regular basis.”
The campaign is available at the Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Lehigh Acres and upcoming Punta Gorda locations. When the Punta Gorda office opens this year, the number of free skin checks per week will increase. These free skin checks save Southwest Floridians without insurance up to $91. Those with insurance save $15 to $65 in copays. Florida Skin Center has completed approximately 50 free skin checks to date. The staff’s goal ultimately is to perform more 100 free skin checks per month.

Spiro & Associates CEO Appointed to Board of Directors of American Red Cross Local Chapter
Christopher T. Spiro, CEO/chief creative officer at Spiro & Associates Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations and Brand Architecture, has been appointed to the board of directors of the American Red Cross, Florida’s Southern Gulf Chapter. He will help to serve more than 1 million residents in Collier, Glades, Hendry and Lee counties for three terms, up to nine years.
Nominated by the board of governors who recognized Spiro’s leadership abilities and experience, he will help develop the American Red Cross’ vision for the region, as well as work with other community business professionals to determine the policies that guide the local chapter’s decisions and manage donor contributions.
“Humbled is a word I use incredibly often as an entrepreneur with the opportunity to dive into so many worthwhile causes, but that is the only word that can describe earning a position for an organization that provides aid of every kind from the generosity in people’s hearts,” Spiro said.
Over nearly a decade, Spiro and the American Red Cross South Florida Region will exponentially add to the 52,000 mental health contacts who provide support and care to those impacted by recent weather events across six states and respond to thousands of other natural and man-made disasters that heavily impact Southwest Florida.
