Plan a Girls Weekend Away in Matlacha 5

What Do You Get When You Blend a Historic Fishing Village with an Eclectic Artist Community? A Fun, Colorful Getaway!

Matlacha is the tiny island village with the name even some area residents probably can’t pronounce. For the record, it’s “MAT-la-shay.”

While Matlacha is a short drive from Cape Coral, once you’re there you’ll feel like you’ve stepped away from the hustle and bustle of Midpoint Bridge at rush hour and into an Old Florida paradise—with a side of colorful kitsch.

Anglers might know Matlacha for the “Fishing-est Bridge in the World,” but others know the village for the vibrant artist community that has thrived since the 1990s. Some even refer to Matlacha as “Key West of the North.”

Despite its blink-and-you’ll-miss-it size, Matlacha has plenty to offer. Shops, restaurants, art galleries and accommodations line narrow Pine Island Road through the village.

The restaurants take advantage of the fresh seafood. The bars have live music—and even livelier patrons.

Activities run the gamut! From massages to guided kayaking and boat tours to shopping for fine art or fun souvenirs, there’s something for everyone.

A getaway weekend in Matlacha might not even be enough time to explore it all!
