We Asked a Cape Coral Financial Adviser for Some Tips and Tricks to Start Smart Financial Planning in 2019

Chris Burch of Florida Insurance and Financial Services, Inc., in Cape Coral regularly offers his clients his expertise on planning for their financial futures. We asked him for a few tips on how you can prepare to make 2019 your best financial year ever.

Here are a few fundamental rules I follow:

1. First of all, keep in mind that it takes an average of four to six weeks to create a new habit.

2. Create a “rainy day/opportunity fund.”

  • At minimum, try to have at least six months of your expenses in savings that you can access if needed. If you don’t know your expenses, then Google “how to create a budget.”

3. Assuming you have a surplus in your expenses versus income, put every dime of that surplus into your “retirement bucket.”

  • This is where a financial planner can really guide you.

  • If you don’t have a surplus after you’ve paid your expenses, then you need to cut your expenses.

4. Create a plan, periodically test the plan and adjust if necessary—but stick to it!

Chris works with clients of all ages, incomes and budgets.

“The first—and most important—step is to just get started,” he says. “It’s my job to help my clients plan for every next step of their financial life. It’s my goal to see my clients achieve their goals.”
